  3. INSTALLATION FOR WINDOWS 3.1 USERS

  5. 'Discover Astronomy' can be run entirely off CD-ROM. However for
  6. performance reasons we strongly recommend installing the program on
  7. a hard disk drive. This takes less than 1.0 megabyte of disk space.
  8.  
  9. To install the program follow the instructions given below:
  10.  
  11. Step 1.  If you haven't already turned on your computer and
  12. started Windows, do so now.
  13.  
  14. Step 2.   Insert the 'Discover Astronomy' disk in the CD-ROM drive.
  15.  
  16. Step 3.   To install 'Discover Astronomy' open the Program Manager
  17. window, click File to display the File menu, and then click Run.
  18.  
  19. Step 4.  In the Command Line box, type the drive letter for the
  20. CD-ROM drive, a colon, a backslash, and the word INSTALL
  21. (for example, type d:\install).

  23. Step 5.   Click OK or press enter.
  24.  
  25. Step 6.   Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
  26. If you do not already have QuickTime for Windows 2.0.3 or later
  27. on your hard disk, accept the option to run the QuickTime 2.0.3
  28. installer to install QuickTime for Windows.

  30. STARTING 'Discover Astronomy' with Windows 3.1

  32. Step 8.   From the Program Manager window, double-click the
  33. 'Discover Astronomy' icon.  (The icon is in the Maris Multimedia
  34. group window).

  38. 'Discover Astronomy' can be run entirely off CD-ROM.  However

  51. Click Install when the Maris auto-install dialog is displayed.
  52. The Maris auto-install dialog is only displayed the first time
  53. that you install 'Discover Astronomy' in your CD-ROM drive.

  55. Step 7.   Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
  56. If you do not already have QuickTime for Windows 2.0.3 or later
  57. on your hard disk, accept the option to run the QuickTime 2.0.3
  58. installer to install QuickTime for Windows.

  60. STARTING 'Discover Astronomy' with Windows 95
  61.  
  62. Step 8. After installing 'Discover Astronomy' the Maris auto-play
  63. dialog will be displayed automatically when you insert the CD-ROM.
  64. Click on Play to start 'Discover Astronomy'
  65.  
  66. Removing or re-installing 'Discover Astronomy' under Windows 95.

  68. The Maris auto-install program registers the program installation by
  69. making an entry in the WIN.INI file.  Each time you insert the
  70. CD-ROM the program checks this file to determine whether to display
  71. the auto-install or the auto-play dialog.  If you delete the
  72. 'Discover Astronomy' files from your disk without modifying the
  73. WIN.INI file, the auto-install program will continue to believe
  74. that the program is installed.   Auto-install will not function
  75. correctly until you remove the 'Discover Astronomy' lines from WIN.INI.

  77. Alternatively you may re-install the program by using Add/remove
  78. programs, which is in Control panel.
